Kevin McCarthy became the official Speaker of the House. Republicans in the US House of Representatives inducted a historic new member.
After all the disputes from last year… our Republican leaders decided to support their fellow conservatives. They have put all their differences aside and acted as one party…
McCarthy Becomes House Speaker
In the end, no Republican voted against McCarthy… which was the closest thing to GOP unity seen for a while.
McCarthy said after the victorious vote, “I hope one thing is clear after this week: I will never give up. I will never give up on you, the American people. And I will never give up on keeping our Commitment to America. Our nation is worth fighting for.”
With his election, members-elect of the 118th Congress can be sworn in and assigned to committees so regular work of the House can begin. This includes managing the federal government through passing a budget and individual spending bills… plus tough oversight of the Biden administration.
Moreover, Republicans holding back their votes until the deal was done praised it as a series of changes. They believe it will beat back the excessive spending that defined the first two years of the Biden administration.
Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois shared his thoughts in a Tweet. He said, “We are negotiating a historic conservative victory to finally stop reckless SPENDING and DEBT from crushing our children & grandchildren. We will ensure a Republican House cannot do what Senate Rs did when they passed the disastrous $1.7 TRILLION omnibus! We must STOP BIDEN!”
Rep.-elect Ralph Norman of South Carolina said restoring fiscal sanity is his top priority, and the deal would help make that happen.
He Tweeted, “We cannot continue the reckless spending and borrowing on the backs of our children. That’s why I am pleased to have agreed with Rep. McCarthy on concrete steps he will take to fix our budgeting and appropriations processes and much-needed rules changes in the House.”
McCarthy Rips Biden’s Classified Documents
Right now, McCarthy is putting the House in a different direction. Especially now that the demo-rat Nancy Pelosi is not in charge.
McCarthy discussed the discovery of classified White House documents. Specifically, those in Biden’s personal Delaware residence and private office. He criticized the Justice Department’s special counsel investigation into the matter as hypocritical.
Moreover, McCarthy also discussed GOP priorities such as:
- Repealing 87,000 new IRS agents
- Forming a select committee on China
- Halting emergency COVID funds
- Releasing video evidence from Jan. 6 Capitol riots for transparency purposes
Lastly, he urged Biden to sit with Congress to discuss budget cuts. McCarthy said he wants to prevent bankruptcy for America’s entitlements programs.
Let’s hope that McCarthy will remove the influence of the Biden administration in the House. His next actions will determine if he is a true conservative at heart.
